Query Statement: Hello Sir, I have obtained 70% marks in F.Sc 1st year and I’m awaiting 2nd year result and hope to get 80% marks. Now I have two options in my mind. First is to do BDS from private college or to do DPT from a private college. I know about BDS scope in Pakistan but I’m unaware about DPT. Do they earn equivalent to that of doctors? What is their basic pay in government and private hospitals? Can I hope of a good future with DPT degree? What should I do? What if I don’t get admission in BDS? Then should I repeat or go for DPT?

Please do guide me in detail.

Education Level: Intermediate

Skills – Subject Related: I’m good at biology and physics.

Skills – Non Subject Related: Good at software and technology. Good at table tennis. Good at understanding others feelings.

Interests: My interest was to become a magician but it has very less scope in Pakistan. A good standard of life is also my interest.

Career Objective: Recently I’ve joined the academy for the preparation of UHS entry test.

Counseling (History): Everyone keeps saying that DPT is not a good field. They are not regarded as doctors and they are not rich. It has no scope in Pakistan. It disheartens me. That’s why I’m trying to get more and more information about DPT.

DPT has good scope in Pakistan but I suggest please meet a senior DPT for current scope and latest updates.

BDS is better field and grade 17 is given by Govt Hospitals to Dentist.

Your marks in part-I of Intermediate is good. BDS is good field and have good scope in Pakistan. If you have interest and want a good future then go for BDS. As a alternate option! You can go for pharmacy field or you can do BS in any science subject like Biology, chemistry or physics.

You can go for Psychology field as you mentioned you have good understanding of others feelings.

Best of Luck for result

As DPT is a growing field and it will take time to increase its scope in the private and public sector. So unlike other doctors, it will take time for you to settle if you want to opt for it. Riphah University is offering it for the first time. You can apply there as well.  On the other hand BDS is a good field and has scope in Pakistan and abroad as well.  I suggest that you should go for BDS keeping in mind your requirements.

I would say this field has more potential to grow and succeed as compare to BDS. The answer of the question that what if you do not get admission in BDS do you need to repeat, is totally based on your interest. If you really want to do BDS and want this field as your career, then you need to repeat it. However, if you feel that repeat will not work and will be waste of time, then go for DPT. Remember, after completion of DPTs , you will have eligibility to secure grade 17 and could also teach. You could also set your own business. It is growing field. In order to excel in the field of BDS , you also need to work hard, patience and more education(MDS). I would like to suggest read this article it might help you to understand pro and cons of BDS “http://www.dentalorg.com/is-dentistry-a-good-career-option.html. Every field whether DPT or BDS or any has pros and cons.

One thing I must say every career needs hard work, patience and responsibility because success has no shortcuts. Job market is very competitive everywhere and you can get spotlight by increasing your education (degree) and skills.

Sincerely

  1.  I assume that you mean Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) – always better to not just refer to information in short form so that clarity is ensured.  I’m afraid I can’t answer your specific question about salaries in Pakistan.

It would be best were you to possibly contact people working in the field – this would give you a better idea.

It really depends on where your passion lies – please do not base your career choice on salary – if you are passionate about a field you will always excel and there will always be a good career opportunity for you.

These degrees are good ones to have – they will always be needed and you should not have a problem finding work.  If you really want to work towards the BDS then even if you have delay your admission a year and reset some of your exams – go for it.  There is nothing worse than having to deal with regret and what-ifs later on in life.

Do not expect that your salary will be great at the beginning of your career – whatever field you enter.  It will be a START but with hard work and perseverance you will find that you will be rewarded.  Just manage your expectations so that they are not unreasonably high.

I have heard a number of very skilled doctors complain that they have no quality of life – no time for themselves or their families.  So, do understand that success will not just be measured by what you earn but so many other factors too.

Don’t let other people’s opinions discourage you.  Invest some time in finding people from both fields.  Ask them what it’s like – research on the Internet and then decide for yourself.  I am sure you will pick what feels comfortable to you and IA you will thrive.

Finally whatever profession you choose be honest and true to it. Treat it as you a form of worship – you will be astonished how far you get.

I hope this helps – best of luck!

 Sincerely,
