First is to never consider education as a shortcut of getting into any profession or a business. As the sole purpose of education is your own personal grooming. Secondly, higher pay scale and big titles come with experience and good qualification (skills, expertise and knowledge). If you are an expert in your field, you will excel in your career.

Regarding the decision to select a study program, I always suggest candidates to search more and more job descriptions on job websites so you can see what is in demand. And let me be fair, study program is a choice of any organisation. They may ask for one of CFA/CA or may requires only a B.COM/M.COM qualified candidate. To be more specific, you should choose what you think can be beneficial for your own grooming. CA qualified always got preferences due to the modules and study material. Some people do both and have un-expected salaries. You can also consider the type of job you want to target like if you have interest in taxation and auditing then CA has better subject options while CFA is for financial analysts. You can search more with the words like ‘Accountant’ or ‘Financial Analyst’.

Best of Luck!

It is very difficult to suggest anything without career counseling session. However as you mentioned your interest is in high pay scale rather in numbers. Further I need more details regarding your choice for career success.

According to our CCP policy, I can only advise you on your statement: As CFA is totally different from CA by concept and career prospect. CA is mostly a number game, making you to indulge with book keeping and records. Whereas CFA is a broader term in which financial analysis is required to make strategic/ financial decisions. There are very few CFA, having key positions and salaries. For both you need to complete in 7 to 5 years of continuous hard work.
You may get BS degree in Accounting & finance, before CFA or CA to have better understanding before the time.

You should do CA .CFA is specific degree

Asslam O Alaikum,

It seems you are doing your research on right lines – Consulting your cousin, who is practicing as CA and your Principal, who interacts on daily basis, helping students on their academic concerns.

I am an engineer and a scientist and may not know difference between CA and CFA?

I thought CFA is awarded to a CA after certain years of experience, as Fellow of The Institute of Chartered Accountants?

Although my own son is CFA and MBA from LBS (London Business School), I never asked the difference from him, if any?

My best advice would be for you to take an appointment with the president, or some senior member of The Institute of Chartered Accountants, in your city and get advice from a real professional.

Moreover you can go on Google and try to learn more about your choices..

All the best

Wish you a successful career in life!!!

Thanks a lot for your contact i enjoyed reading
your email and i will simply suggesting you to go for the field of
your interest either CA or CFA because at the end you will have to
accommodate and please do not follow your cousin or someone else it’s
not necessary that you will became like him but at the same time it’s
also possible that you will be a more good professional then him/her.
Think a minute and analyze your position and be sure you are choosing
the destination of your choice and you will proving it to your family
too. Job is not the target but level of satisfaction is the desired
one with excellent command and passion with chosen field…

Good Luck

There is no way you can compare Chartered Accountancy and Chartered Financial Analyst. CA is a basic qualification which you can pursue after your A levels. On the other hand CFA is a professional qualification which has a pre req of 16 years educations. As you mentioned you are more interested toward Accounting, CA should be your choice. CFA is more towards investments and portfolio management which is different from accounting. And I know alot of people who first completed CA and then attempted and cleared CFA. So, first go for CA and consider CFA as an additional qualification option in future.

Good luck

Both CFA and CA are good qualifications with good careers and pay scale, however i think CFA is a bit more advanced then CA so better if you start with CA and then go for CFA. This is how most of the candidates do.

 Hope this will help you.

 Regards
